Sustainably sourced timber from responsibly managed forests

Sustainably Sourced

Our timber comes from responsibly managed forests

Sustainability

All of Pennine Fencing & Landscaping products and timber components are sourced from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified producers.

This means that we only utilise timber from managed forests where planting and renewal programmes are in operation, helping to protect and sustain our environment and air quality.

We only use timber from managed forests and FSC certified producers

Timber Protection Treatment

At Pennine Fencing & Landscaping we only manufacture from and retail timber fencing products that have been pressure treated. By doing this, the natural lifespan of the timber is extended, allowing the timber to be used confidently in a wide variety of end uses and products.

We purchase timber that has been treated under controlled conditions with the following preservatives: Tanalith® E (Green) and Tanatone® Brown.

Tanalith® E (Green) gives the timber an initial light green colour which dries/weathers to a light honey/fawn brown and eventually to a natural silver grey. Likewise, the Tanatone Brown treated timber will alter in shade. This change of colour is not indicative of loss of preservative protection.

Pressure Treated Timber in our Warehouse

The Treatment Process

Step 1

Step 1

Timber loaded into treatment vessel. Initial vacuum applied - timber cells evacuated of air. Vacuum held.

Step 2

Step 2

Cylinder flooded under vacuum with Tanalith® E wood preservative with optional Tanatone® additive.

Step 3

Step 3

Hydraulic pressure applied, forcing the preservative deep into the structure of the timber.

Step 4

Step 4

Final vacuum extracts excess preservative solution, which is pumped back into storage.

Step 5

Step 5

Low pressure inside timber draws in surface solution when vented to atmosphere. Treated timber is left to dry.
